Humanities Lecture Hall

Authors: Rochelle Alers & Pamela Hamilton

Join two talented historical novelists as they journey into the past to bring us formidable female characters who each changed the course of history. In Take the Long Way Home, Rochelle Alers brings us a freedom fighter, businesswoman, master of languages, and ultimately, savior of a European dynasty in Claudia Patterson as she travels from 1950s Mississippi to Paris and Rome in the ‘60s and ‘70s. In Lady Be Good, Pamela Hamilton portrays a moving portrait of Dorothy Hale, the legendary 1930s American socialite whose story is filled with glamor, romance, tragedy, and our own Gold Coast. What does it take to bring the past alive on the page? What lessons can history teach us as fact is woven with fiction?
