Indigenous history on Long Island is more than history, it is also the Island’s present and future. Educator and artist Denise “Weetahmoe” Silva-Dennis (Shinnecock/Hassanamisco-Nipmuc) leads a discussion of Long Island’s indigenous history and culture including artifacts and artwork, the viability of tribal nations on Long Island, and shares present day work to reclaim land, pass recognition legislation, and connect the past to the future. She will talk with Anthropological Archaeologist Allison McGovern.
